Sparking innovations in health care learning
University of Mississippi School of Nursing
Building a strong future for nursing in Mississippi.
Competent and well-trained nurses are critically important to the provision of health care services in our state. We have talented and capable Mississippians who, with more education and training, can become nurse leaders and educators. Building up this health care workforce across our state will benefit the economy and health outcomes.
With the ongoing need for trained nurses statewide and the anticipated wave of retirements from nurse educators, the goal of the four-year project is to strengthen the nurse educator workforce in Mississippi.
There are three components to the project:
- Community College Associate Degree (AD) Nursing graduates selected to pursue and achieve online Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN) from UMMC;
- Leadership development training from UMMC School of Nursing for select existing community college nursing faculty; and
- Achievement of National Certified Nurse Educator for select existing community college nursing faculty with support from UMMC School of Nursing.
