Creating a state-of-the-art culinary medicine teaching kitchen to improve medical care across disciplines.

The project will design and renovate a Teaching Kitchen that will allow the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Culinary Medicine Program (CMP) to expand its program to additional medical students and other UMMC students across the institution.

The CMP will update, renovate and equip space in the UMMC Student Union to create a state-of-the-art teaching kitchen. In addition, CMP will hire a teaching kitchen design consultant who will help design the project before implementation. The renovated space will allow the CMP to offer courses to a greater number of medical students in addition to expanding courses to include other UMMC schools and departments such as Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Preventive Medicine, the School of Nursing, and the School of Pharmacy.

The Teaching Kitchen will allow CMP to provide continuing medical education courses for current practitioners and dietetic interns from across the state. The expansion and effectiveness of the CMP will be measured utilizing qualitative and quantitative outcome metrics to determine the program’s reach and impact.
