Enhancing health and health policy focus in the media

Through this grant, Mississippi Today is able to staff a health editor and two health reporters to provide coverage on health-related issues so Mississippians can better understand how Mississippi’s healthcare system works or fails to work.

Mississippi Today is now one of the largest newsrooms in Mississippi, providing free, nonpartisan news and investigative reporting on government accountability. Founded in 2016 as a statehouse watchdog, Mississippi Today’s roots in Capitol coverage have grown beyond politics and policy to encompass a myriad of beats, including education, public health, justice, environment, equity, and sports.

Led by the state’s top journalists, marketers, and business minds, Mississippi Today is recognized nationally by the likes of the Institute for Nonprofit News, American Journalism Project, Knight Media Fund and the Online News Association as a leader in public service journalism and newsroom innovation.
