Sustaining the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) in Mississippi

CHAMPS (Communities and Hospitals Advancing Maternity Practices) is based at Boston Medical Center and is a breast-feeding focus initiative promoting Baby Friendly. Baby Friendly USA is a non-profit organization that serves as the accrediting body for the UNICEF/WHO’s Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative in the USA.

The overarching goal is to establish Baby-Friendly practices across the state of Mississippi as the norm. As more hospitals reach designation this grant will provide for funding to ensure continuity, solidification, and permanence of the new standards. This will be achieved by analyzing successful implementation strategies to identify key elements for sustainability, and by engaging and responding in real time to challenges associated with sustainability for improved maternity care standards in Mississippi birthing hospitals.
