Population Health is an emerging field in the crossroads of clinical care and public health. It looks beyond the biological factors of one’s health, and into the social, environmental and behavioral factors. It is only the third school of its kind in the country.
The Bower Foundation worked diligently with UMMC to establish the third school of its kind in the country. We were humbled upon hearing the official name of UMMC’s newest school – the John D. Bower School of Population Health.
The Harriet G. Williamson, R.N., B.S., Chair of Population Health Nursing is a trust created as an endowment for the School of Nursing of the University of Mississippi Medical Center. A School of Nursing faculty member selected jointly by the Dean of the School of Nursing and the Dean of the John D. Bower School of Population Health shall hold the Williamson Chair. The Chair will have a primary appointment in the School of Nursing and a secondary appointment in the Bower School. The Williamson Chair will promote the development and training of nurses, nurse practitioners and others within the School of Nursing who wish to develop expertise in population health and population health management.
